# External access

> Understand how people outside your Organization can be given Property or Project access.

## Overview

External access applies when a person outside your Organization is given access to a Property or Project.

An External is not a member of your Organization. Their access comes from the Property roles or Project roles assigned to them.

## How External access works

An External with Property or Project access can:

* Be invited even if they are not part of any Organization.
* Be assigned access without receiving a Global role in your Organization.
* Hold Property roles, Project roles, or both.

  A person does not need to belong to an Organization to be assigned a Property or Project role.
